This spring/summer Brent Council has been running a new trial in three high streets to prepare for the upcoming Simpler Recycling requirements. Working with ReLondon as project consultant, the team is testing two communal bin designs (the MetroSTOR 140L and the Glasdon Jubilee City 100) to see which performs best in high-street locations.

Resident engagement

To support the roll-out, the team has carried out extensive engagement with residents and businesses, both by letter and face‑to‑face. Residents involved were given a starter pack comprising of a kitchen caddy and a roll of liners.

Early results have been encouraging. In the second week of operation in Kingsbury, the 11 food‑waste bins on the road collected an impressive 325 kg of food waste. People clearly have motivation to recycle more if the infrastructure supports them to.
