Cook what you can eat
Mugs, glasses, plates and bowls can all be used to measure out the best portion for you – quick, easy and something you always have in your kitchen. As the amount you want to eat changes just use something different to measure it out.
Here are a few things at home you could use…
Weighing scales
Boring we know, but they do work!
Tablespoons and teaspoons
Make sure you use the right one or you’ll end up with too much chilli and not be able to eat your dinner!
Mugs
A full mug of rice should feed four people – but if you’re hungry you might need to add a bit extra. Try different size mugs to see what works for you and the people you’re feeding.
Plates
Pour uncooked pasta on to a plate to choose your portion and slide it straight into the pan to cook. Get everyone to choose how hungry they are to avoid any leftover.
Spaghetti measurer
You grab a handful of spaghetti, put it in the pan and then a bit more for luck. It’s difficult to work out how much to cook using your hands, so use a spaghetti measurer instead. Choose the 1 person, 2 people or 3 persons portion and see how many meals you get.
It’s not going to be perfect every time if someone doesn’t come home to eat as planned or you’re not feeling too hungry but that’s ok, just put any extra in a container in the fridge to use as an ingredient in dinner or lunch tomorrow.
