Go green this Christmas and visit the ‘Stuff for Free’ event
Do you need to do an emergency de-clutter to make room for all the lovely presents you’re expecting? Maybe you need to get some extra stocking fillers?
If you’ve said yes to either of these you should come along to the North Acton ‘Stuff for Free’ event this weekend. This huge community event is a fantastic opportunity to take away a range of stuff that you have a use for but someone else didn’t need any more.
Last year in an Acton warehouse hundreds of people came to, the first ever Stuff for Free held in the UK, bringing along items they didn’t need and happily took home a massive range of items including books, bikes, toys, clothes, furniture and electrical items, all for free!
Green charity Healthy Planet and furniture re-use charity Furnish are working with WLWA to run the event to raise awareness of environmental issues and reduce the amount of unwanted goods going to landfill.
The event is also being supported by Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, chair of West London Waste Authority (WLWA) who says “There is no better time than the run-up to Christmas to get rid of unwanted items. And no better time to pick up new ones for free – especially extra presents. Into the bargain you are helping the environment by reusing things rather than simply wasting them by throwing them away. It is good to see Stuff for Free back in Ealing.”
There are some items that cannot be accepted, please do not bring these along
- Open cosmetics and make-up
- Food and drink
- Chemicals open or otherwise
- Items without fire safety labels
- Gas canisters
- Fire extinguishers
On Saturday 8 December, from 10am until 3pm, residents and businesses alike can bring along any unwanted items that are still in good enough condition for others to use, including books, furniture, gadgets and other household items. This includes both working and broken electrical items, thanks to DHL Envirosolutions, which will take away all the broken electrical equipment to be recycled. Electrical items will be safety checked. A team of volunteers will sort through the donated stuff.
Some items may be refused if they are not suitable for someone else to use or there are hygiene concern, and you’ll be asked to take them back home.
Then on Sunday 9 December, also between 10am and 3pm, anyone can come along and take items they want, for free. All items are taken away as seen.
As well as the items given to de-clutter cupboards, Furnish will also have some lines of re-used furniture for sale at a discount from their already very competitive prices.
