WEEE Love Recycling!
The official results are in! West London residents love recycling. To kick off the New Year in (waste minimisation) style, we hosted our annual series of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) events. Our week-long WEEE collections give west London residents the chance to recycle unwanted electrical items locally. The events this year were a smash success!
Big Recycling Results
We collected 1,461 items, weighing just under two tonnes or a total of 1,910 kilograms to be precise. These electronics will now go on to recycling so their parts can be used again. A much better use of them then sending them to landfill or incineration.
Thanks to all our residents for participating. We couldn’t have done this without your keen interest and effort!
Why WEEE Should Be Recycling
Electrical items are one of the fastest growing waste streams. Many electrical goods contain finite natural resources. Recycling ensures these resources are used again. In turn, reducing the environmental impact and health risks associated with sending them to landfill or incineration.
Find out more about making the most of your electronic items by visit our waste reduction info guide here.
How Can I Start Recycling My WEEE?
All electronic items can be recycled. Your local Household Re-use and Recycling Centre (HRRC) will have a designated area for electrical goods. Look out for the signs that say ‘small mixed WEEE’ and ‘LDA’ (Large Domestic Appliances). Find your nearest HRRC by clicking here and bring your items when it’s convenient for you.
Some boroughs have recycling banks for small WEEE. Use this handy recycling locator to find out if there are recycling banks near you.
If neither of these work for you, why not host your own WEEE recycle event? They are easy to organise and something almost everyone can join in with. Have a look at our guide here for more information. Then get in touch so we can answer any questions you may have. We can also help promote your event! Congratulations to all our residents for participating. We couldn’t have done it without you!
