The west London Festival of Repair – this September
It’s so frustrating when our favourite electrical item grinds to a halt, the handle comes off the bag we’ve had for years, or your bike chain just doesn’t want to stay on the bike. Don’t despair, instead of thinking replace, start thinking ‘repair’.
This September The Rubbish Diet want to make thinking and doing repair a whole lot easier. This is why they’ve organised a Festival of Repair which will give west Londoners an opportunity to find places to learn skills to fix, find about the possibilities for repairing your everyday items from expert repairers and shine a light on repairers across the West London.
Want to take part? It’s easy! Take the pledge to ‘Repair One Thing’ and use the west London Repair map to find somewhere local to fix. There will be events you can attend that will help you gain some new skills or to share what you know with others. Keep an eye on their blog for featured repair enthusiast and experts who will share their stories. If you’re signed up to the pledge you’ll receive news and offers to help your fix your things.
Restart your broken electronics!
The Rubbish Diet has been hosting Restart Parties in Harrow and Hounslow to help residents to learn electronic repair skills so their broken toasters, irons or laptops don’t end up in the bin. Restart Parties are happening all over London, run by ordinary people who enjoy fixing things they bring together people with repair skills with those who want to learn and get a bit more life from their electricals before being thrown away. There will be a Restart Party hosted at Uxbridge Pavilions Shopping Centre on Saturday 19th of September from 11-2pm.
If you want to learn or if you have the skills to fix and want to help others bring their electronics back to life contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don’t ditch, stitch!
How many of your clothes are hanging round in the wardrobe waiting to be repaired? Perhaps there’s a shirt with a button missing, skirt with a broken zip or a pair of your children’s trousers need a hole fixed or to be re-hemmed? If all you need is the confidence to do those repairs yourself then check out the Festival of Repair programme for an event you can go along to. If you can’t get along to one of our events then check out these guides from Love Your Clothes for some basic fixes.
Using a few sewing skills we can keep our favourite clothes for a little bit longer. If you want to share your sewing skills then get in touch with email@example.com.
