Love Your Clothes Sewing Repair Workshop: Take II
They came back by popular demand! Another round of our popular Love Your Clothes sewing repair workshops took place on 13-14 March in Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow. Residents had the chance to refashion and repair items for their Spring wardrobes and beyond…
Skill Sharing in Hillingdon
Our Hillingdon workshop was filled to the brim. Nearly 20 residents showed up to learn a host of different sewing skills. Master Crafter, Barley Massey from the haberdashery shop Fabrications lead our workshops again. Her assistant Dee was also there to lend a hand. Together the pair demonstrated different sewing techniques from how to use a sewing machine to hand darning. They also helped participants refresh and repair items they brought in for the class.
Residents embarked on a number of different sewing projects. One had an old set of curtains in need of some repair. Another was busy stitching gold trim onto a jacket to update its look (see photo on right). One young participant was spotted altering a pair of jeans by cropping and adding some colourful rainbow tape to the sides.
It was also great to see some familiar faces from our growing community of sewing enthusiasts welcoming new people. Emma, our Waste Minimisation Officer organising the workshops said, “people helped each other and had a fun, social evening. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, including myself!”
As our sewing repair workshops continue to prove popular, we’re looking to expand them. We’ll be collaborating with Hillingdon Friends of the Earth for an upcoming Restart party too! Restart parties are community events that bring people together to repair broken electrical items. At future events we’ll be bringing together textiles and electrical items for repair.
