Why hate waste at Christmas?
It’s our job to dispose of all the rubbish (not separated for recycling) created in homes in West London. Whether you put rubbish out in sacks or bins, your local council collects it and brings it to our transfer stations to be sent to landfill or an energy from waste plant.
Just after Christmas we see a massive increase in the amount of stuff put on the trains taking the rubbish away. In the two weeks following last Christmas just over 19,650,000kg (about the weight of 19,650 Ford Fiestas) was collected.
The cost of just burying this rubbish was a little over £2 million.
To find out how much your rubbish is worth to you try our bin challenge this week. Choose one of the ways we suggest to explore your rubbish and check out The Rubbish Diet which you could take in the new year.
Our Love Christmas Hate Waste information also suggests a couple of other things you can do this week to save yourself money and time over the next 6 weeks.
