On the fifth day of Christmas a Waste Elf gave to me 5 pre-loved things
The Waste Elves know we all own things we never use but have just in case. They know there are items hiding in our cupboards we just don’t like and there are a few of our belongings we’ve just forgotten about.
We keep them because there’s no time to sort them out or it’s too difficult to take them somewhere, so they sit, gathering dust and taking up space.
Everything has a value though, if you no longer use it someone will want it – you just need to know how to find them. It’s an old saying, but true – one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
- Offer items to friends, family or colleagues
- Donate to or purchase items from a local charity
- Visit a local Swish being held in your area. Visit our events page to take part in one of our GetSwishing events.
- There is loads of choice here for second hand items – ebay, Freecycle, Freegle, Ecomodo, Preloved, Streetbank or even a Mum2Mum Market.
Getting items from others (second-hand aka pre-loved) can be a great idea too. At Christmas you may need extra chairs, more cutlery or a book/album that you just can’t get brand new and then give it away again after Christmas!
