On the fourth day of Christmas a Waste Elf gave to me 4 frozen loaves
With people coming and going, last minute shopping and never enough time in the day during December, keeping bread in the freezer is a great way to make sure there’s always something for a quick snack or light meal.
The waste elves know that 24 million slices of bread are thrown away in the UK every day, hitting the top of the food waste charts – so freezing bread is a great way to save time and money too.
Bread can be toasted straight from the freezer, so beans or cheese on toast, a thickly buttered slice with jam or a toasted bacon sandwich will only take minutes.
It’s also easy to take out a couple of slices from a whole frozen loaf too, they’ll defrost within an hour.
It’s not just loaves you can freeze, cut bagels in half then put in the freezer, put in whole rolls, croissants and French sticks.
No need for bread to end up in the bin over Christmas – freeze until you’re ready!
